Basso Palta III An Italian thoroughbred, perfectly tuned with love! What does Leon Meijer think about it?
I bought my Basso Palta III from BergaSports in Dedemsvaart, and what an experience it was. Years ago, I had already worked with Ingmar during my active speed skating and inline skating days, when I was one of the physiotherapists supporting the athletes. Now, our paths crossed again.

I bought my Basso Palta III from BergaSports in Dedemsvaart, and what an experience it was. Years ago, I had already worked with Ingmar during my active speed skating and inline skating days, when I was one of the physiotherapists supporting the athletes. Now, our paths crossed again.

I went to visit Ingmar (back when the coffee still needed some work), and together, sitting behind the laptop in the shop, we put together a custom Basso just for me. Once we had perfected the setup, we hit “order” and my Basso was ready to be handcrafted in Italy. Pretty cool story, right?
You have to be patient when ordering an Italian thoroughbred, but that’s all part of the experience. In return, you get something you rarely find at other bike shops or brands.
The highlight was the appointment with Ingmar to fine-tune and dial in the bike together. He takes his time, listens carefully, and keeps making adjustments until everything feels just right. As a sports physiotherapist, I know how important a proper bike fit is, and here, every last detail is taken care of.
Recently, I took my Basso to Alsace to charge through the vineyards and along the gravel roads. Man, oh man, what a blast! From the very first metre, the bike felt rock-solid and planted on the road. Absolutely brilliant! I’m already looking forward to more, so over the next few years, I’ll be gravel riding even more than I already do.

Oh, and the coffee at BergaSports? That’s sorted now, too. I taught Ingmar how to get the very best out of his Rocket espresso machine in its Giro d’Italia colours.
Looking for a beautiful Italian thoroughbred, a meticulously thought-out bike fit, and a great espresso to go with it? Then Ingmar at BergaSports is the man to see.
